Scent detection training for pet dogs in Crawley and across West Sussex

We create a fun mentally stimulating environment for all pet dogs to exercise their natural power… sniffing! Regardless of their breed, age or physical ability.

What is Scent work?

Scent work, (aka nose work or scent detection), is a sport where a dog and handler work together to locate hidden target odours. We use your dog's powerful sense of smell to provide mental stimulation! Our scent work is suitable for dogs of all ages and temperaments, and its a brilliant tool to help shy, anxious, or reactive dogs to build confidence. 

How do we teach it?

When you join our group classes, we will start from the very beginning, introducing our dogs to the game of scent work. We will challenge their skills by moving onto hidden scent articles, just like real ‘sniffer’ dogs!

“But isn’t scent detection just for working line breeds???”

Nope! All dogs use their noses to navigate the world around them, we just teach them to use that skill in an activity that pays out with lots of treats or toys!

Scent detection can be enjoyed by dogs of any age, breed, physical ability or confidence levels.

  • Scent work is scientifically proven to leave our dog’s in a calm and confident mental state. By receiving lots of positive reinforcement and success through their training, they are put into a positive judgement bias. Giving our dogs the opportunity to experience positivity in the presence of their triggers. Releasing their pent-up energy on sniffing instead.

  • 15 minutes of sniffing is more fulfilling and tiring than an hour’s run. Releasing this mental energy allows our owners to tire out their dogs without having a detrimental affect on their bodies by engaging with just physical workouts, e.g. repetitive ball throwing…

    Also we are showing them that you are just as exciting to play with!

  • Our scent detection is worked on between just you and your dog. We will enable nervous dogs to feel confident in these environments and revert their focus back on us.

    As mentioned with reactive dogs, our classes give you an opportunity to experience positivity in the presence of their triggers. Helping to grow your dog’s confidence.

  • Positivity and confidence are a huge part of what supports a rescue dog into their new lives with us. Scent work is the perfect game for them. It also requires you both to work as partners. Helping you to create that lifelong bond through positive training.
